After all I am an entrepreneur who happens to be a General Counsel
Max Hübner (1961) studied international law and business administration at Open University in the Netherlands. He started his career as civil servant. Over more than twenty years he contributed on legal matters in the field of law enforcement (being a cop), governance, environment, housing and spatial planning and financial markets. As a deputy director legislation with the Dutch government he introduced in 1999 document assembly and legal work flow management. At USG legal professionals, being Director private markets, he introduced new concepts for legal services and pricing. That was in 2005! Based on his failures and successes he developed an approach for the transformation of legal departments. By introducing this approach in the public and private domain he proved that a change can be made.
At present Max Hübner is General Counsel at PGGM N.V. He is also lecturer at the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences, strategic advisor for law firms and legal departments and executive coach for legal professionals.
PGGM N.V. is an organization that works with money, but focuses on people. PGGM currently manage about € 200 billion* of pension assets for more than 2.5 million Dutch participants.
In the 2013 FT Innovative Lawyers Report, Max and his team were recognised for their Innovation in Operational Change, overhauling the approach to external spend. The significant cost savings that this brought were achieved through empowerment of the in-house lawyers, encouraging decision-making and demonstrating trust. By now it saved the pension funds quite some millions.
