Steve Roberts is Chief Counsel for Procurement and Wholesale Customers at British Telecommunications plc in London, England. Steve is responsible for 12 legal and contract professionals supporting BT plc’s externally recognised Procurement and Vendor Management function which is a team of over 400 buyers and procurement managers responsible for the buying activity across all of BT’s lines of business and global management of BT’s supply base. Steve’s team is also responsible for supporting the selling of BT Wholesale’s telecommunications, connectivity, media & broadcast and field force products and services to fixed and mobile operators and resellers in the UK which in FYI 16/17 was a business with revenues in excess of £1 billion. In recent years Steve has been instrumental in establishing, maintaining and extending the services of an offshore legal outsource partner in support of BT enabling the in-house Legal Team to concentrate on areas where they can add more value.
Steve has international experience of Telco procurement outside the UK. Prior to his current role Steve was a team leader within the BT Wholesale Bids team and a member of the Major Transactions Team and Ventures Legal Team.
Before joining BT in 2005, Steve practised as a Corporate Lawyer at Cripps Harries Hall in Tunbridge Wells, England. At Cripps Steve gained extensive experience as a transactional lawyer in the M&A field specialising in acquisitions and disposals of small to medium sized businesses across a number of sectors, joint ventures and corporate restructuring. Steve was admitted as a Solicitor in England and Wales in 2001.
Steve lives in Suffolk and is married to Monika and has two children aged 11 and 8. Outside work Steve long walks, studying 20th-century world history and meeting new people.
